Life changes or issues regarding a parent/guardian can have a profound effect on an entire family. This can in turn affect the family’s ability to communicate or connect with one another. Family therapy which includes parents/guardians, and their children working with an therapist to overcome issues and building a healthy relationship with one another. My approach to family therapy consists of involving all family members in our sessions, while also encouraging them to provide some input on ways they can overcome stresses as an entire unit. Family therapy can be a standalone form of treatment or an addition to the services already being provided to an individual.
As a therapist specializing in men’s mental health issues, I realize the importance of a husband, father, or son having his loved ones present to support him…..especially if they are also being impacted by the difficulties he’s enduring.
